By using apps, messenger and platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, we’re leaving an endless trace of data. That way information about us and our life can get collected, analysed and sold. Not only since the NSA scandal it became obvious how deep governmental control and surveillance are invading one’s private sphere. But it looks like we’re still not aware of its dimension, since it provoked few public upheaval. Governmental surveillance is even actively demanded by parts of the population and justified by the catchphrase “security”. Is this because we don’t feel restricted in our personal space and have “nothing to hide” or is digital abstinence simply not an option anymore?
Can we even recognize when surveillance is not only for or our protection and comfort but becomes a threat.
The exhibition shows artistic positions of different medium which address the difficulty and dimension of our digital lifestyle such as digital surveillance. At that they also bring the question of everybody’s personal responsibility.
